When your teen is having a hard time

Adolescence is hard enough without anxiety, school pressure, social media, and family changes piled on top. Sometimes a teen who was doing fine starts to pull away: grades slip, mornings become battles, or they stop talking about what’s going on.

I spent more than a decade in school-based mental health, including six years as a re-engagement specialist in Douglas County schools. I’ve worked with teens who had fallen off track and helped them find a way forward. I understand what teens are navigating—and the school systems around them.

What I help with

Families commonly reach out for support with:

  • Anxiety and stress: perfectionism, panic, worry, and the pressure to have it all together
  • Low mood and withdrawal: losing interest, isolating, or not seeming like themselves
  • School avoidance and disengagement: missed days, falling behind, or a teen who has stopped trying
  • Friendships and identity: social conflict, belonging, self-esteem, and figuring out who they are
  • Family transitions: divorce, moves, blended families, or major changes at home
  • ADHD and learning differences: support with attention, organization, and school-related challenges

Support at school

School can be one of the biggest sources of stress, and with the right support, one of the biggest sources of help.

With your permission, I can:

  • Coordinate with teachers, counselors, and school staff so everyone is on the same page
  • Help you make sense of 504 Plans, IEPs, and school support processes
  • Prepare you for school meetings so you feel confident walking in
  • Share strategies that work in therapy with the people who see your teen every day
  • Help your teen learn to speak up for what they need

What families often notice

  • A teen who feels more capable, calm, and like themselves
  • Less conflict around mornings and homework
  • Better communication, with fewer shut doors and more real conversations
  • A school plan that genuinely supports their teen

How it works

  1. Free 15-minute consultation. We’ll talk about what’s happening and whether I’m the right fit.
  2. Intake session. I meet with the parent(s) and teen, together and separately, to understand the full picture.
  3. Ongoing sessions. Sessions are weekly or biweekly, with parent check-ins as needed.

Fee: $185 per session. Private pay; superbills are available for out-of-network reimbursement, and HSA/FSA cards are accepted.

Frequently asked questions

What ages do you work with?

Ages 12 and up.

My teen doesn’t want to come. What should I do?

That’s common, and it’s not a reason to wait. A consultation can help us decide how to approach it. Many reluctant teens warm up once they see that therapy isn’t another lecture.
